About The Role

As an Imaging Manager, you will be responsible for supporting  and developing a team of Radiographers, Clinical Assistants and Administrators to ensure the delivery of a quality service and the highest quality of patient care.

You will ensure that the service is fully compliant with all relevant legislation, Alliance Medical Policies and Procedures and will work alongside key stakeholders within the CDC. You will also be required to manage the center's budget and performance targets.

Qualifications

This role requires a strong educational background in radiography or nuclear medicine, supported by relevant registrations and, ideally, additional leadership or specialist qualifications.

Essential

·       Evidence of a degree or equivalent qualification (BSc/DCR in Diagnostic Radiography

·       Highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by both theoretical and practical experience

·       Evidence of extra responsibility supporting a senior application

Desirable

·       Management qualifications

·       Radiation Protection Supervisor

·       MR Responsible Person

·       Post‑graduate training in a specialist field (e.g., MRI/CT)

Skills

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication abilities, excellent organisational skills, and high clinical capability, combined with effective use of IT and imaging systems.

Essential

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team

·       Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and PowerPoint

·       Must be IT literate and confident with RIS/PACS systems

·       Strong organisational and workload‑prioritisation skills

·       Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing business needs

·       Demonstrated customer service skills

·       Strong clinical knowledge in diagnostic imaging

·       IV Cannulation certificate

Knowledge

This position requires clear understanding of regulatory standards, clinical governance, and the frameworks that underpin safe and effective diagnostic imaging services.

·       Demonstrable clinical knowledge

·       Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g., MHRA, IR(ME)R, IRR17, EPR 2010)

·       Understanding of CQC standards

·       Awareness of and compliance with:

o   Alliance Medical Policies and Procedures

o   Radiation Regulations where applicable

o   Health and Safety legislation

o   Data Protection and patient confidentiality

·       Knowledge of the Quality Standards for Imaging

Experience

Candidates must demonstrate both clinical experience and operational capability, with exposure to leadership, financial oversight, and customer relationships.

Essential

·       Minimum 3 years’ experience in‑modality

·       Experience managing a team

·       Evidence of supporting senior applications through additional responsibility

·       Knowledge and experience of managing a business budget

·       Experience in developing customer relationships

·       Enhanced DBS clearance

·       Full driving licence (essential for mobile roles)

·       Willingness and flexibility to work across multiple sites if required

Responsibilities of the role

Clinical

The role ensures delivery of safe, effective, and high‑quality clinical services by overseeing protocols, maintaining robust image management pathways, supporting scanning where required, and providing leadership to the clinical team.

  • Ensure clinical protocols are appropriate for the service.
  • Establish and maintain effective image management processes (image transfer, report management, etc.).
  • Support clinical scanning where trained and appropriate.
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor the Clinical Team.

Operational

This area ensures that the service operates smoothly day‑to‑day, with full compliance, efficient staffing, quality oversight, and effective resource management.

  • Ensure all staff operate in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to the HCPC Code of Conduct and guidelines.
  • Complete mandatory audits, assess outcomes, and implement improvements.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and servicing schedules.
  • Lead incident investigations with Quality & Risk and Unit Manager.
  • Conduct personal development reviews for clinical staff.
  • Ensure clinical staff rotas comply with the safe staffing policy.
  • Maintain training compliance (proficiency scheme, mandatory training).
  • Support the Centre Manager with operational mobilisation and advice.
  • Understand the unit/centre’s contractual requirements.
  • Undertake or support recruitment for the Operational Team.

Safety

This responsibility ensures radiation and MRI safety, equipment quality assurance, clinical documentation standards, and robust incident reporting processes.

  • Act as Radiation Protection Supervisor / MR Responsible Person and liaise with RPA, MPE, MRSE, and RWA where applicable.
  • Manage dosimetry (CT, X‑ray only).
  • Ensure QA is completed on all equipment and acted upon appropriately.
  • Maintain and regularly review safety documentation (Risk Assessments, Local Rules, pathways).
  • Report incidents and hazards through correct procedures.
  • Ensure audits are completed, submitted, reviewed, and actioned.

Teamwork and Communication

This responsibility ensures positive teamwork, professional communication, conflict resolution, and active participation in departmental activities.
